11 Arrested in Subramanyapura for Murder Bid Over Cricket Match Feud

The Subramanyapura police have arrested 11 people, including a married couple, for allegedly attempting to murder a man and assaulting two others in Uttarahalli over a dispute stemming from a cricket match. The attacks occurred in southwest Bengaluru on September 20, leading to two criminal cases being registered the following day.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 27-year-old Manikanta, his 21-year-old wife Keerthana, Prem V., Manoj G., Krishnagupta, Akash alias Mandya, Munna, Madhusudhan, Darshan S., Sudeep M.N., and Bharath M.G. According to investigators, all 11 suspects are in their 20s.
The violence unfolded in two separate incidents on September 20. In the first incident, the complainant and his friends were standing at a vacant site in Uttarahalli when six to seven individuals arrived on motorcycles. The assailants allegedly assaulted the complainant and his friend using daggers and long weapons.
Later that same day, a second assault took place while the complainant was having food near Uttarahalli Main Road. More than five persons arrived on motorcycles and attacked him with iron rods. When the complainant’s nephew stepped in to intervene, the group assaulted him as well.
Investigators stated that the attacks were planned as revenge following a dispute that broke out approximately two months earlier. The accused and the victim had played a cricket match together, during which an argument escalated into a fight over bats and wickets.
Following the attacks, two cases were registered at the Subramanyapura police station on September 21. Using technical evidence, officers tracked the suspects and questioned Keerthana regarding their whereabouts. Police said she initially provided false information and concealed the fact that the suspects had visited her home.
“We reviewed CCTV footage in the vicinity and found that the accused had visited her house. Subsequently, we questioned her again, which gave leads about the whereabouts of the accused,” an investigator in the case said.
All 11 suspects were produced before a court and remanded to police custody for further questioning. Four of the accused, including Keerthana, have since been remanded in judicial custody, while interrogation of the remaining seven suspects remains under way.
