37-Year-Old Man Dies by Suicide at Huskur Road Metro Station Near Electronics City

A 37-year-old man died by suicide after jumping in front of an approaching train at Huskur Road Metro Station near Electronics City on Monday evening at 5:50 pm. The incident disrupted train operations on the Yellow Line for more than two hours.

The deceased was identified as Rajesh Hiremath, a bachelor originally from Raichur who was residing in Ananthanagar, Bengaluru. Police reported that Hiremath had been unemployed for the past four months. He previously worked as a lecturer, a content writer, and an editor for a digital news platform. Police suspect that personal and financial difficulties led to the incident. The Hebbagodi police station registered a case of unnatural death.

According to officials, the train operator spotted Hiremath on the tracks and immediately applied emergency brakes, but the train could not stop in time and ran over him. Following the incident, the operator alerted the Operations Control Centre, which promptly shut off traction power in the affected section of the line.

Station staff and Metro security personnel were mobilised to the platform alongside responding police officers. Authorities secured the platform, conducted rescue and recovery operations, and completed statutory procedures, track clearance, and safety inspections before allowing train services to resume.

The incident caused disruption on the Yellow Line between 5:55 pm and 8 pm. During the disruption, train operations continued on a curtailed route between Electronic City and Rashtriya Vidyalaya Road. Traction power was restored at 7:42 pm, and normal passenger movement and full train operations resumed by 7:57 pm.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) stated that continuous audio announcements were made at stations and inside trains throughout the event, while passenger information display systems were updated to inform commuters about regulated services and alternative travel options. Affected passengers were refunded their ticket fares at stations, while refunds for online tickets involving curtailed journeys were scheduled to be initiated on Tuesday.
