7 Arrested as Police Bust Counterfeit Currency Racket in Uppinangady

Police have arrested seven people after uncovering a counterfeit currency printing racket in Uppinangady, Karnataka. Investigators probing the case reported key findings indicating that the group was still in the preparatory stages of the operation and had not yet circulated any fake currency into public use.

According to details released by the police, the group had arrived in Uppinangady about a month ago to set up their operation. So far, investigators have found no evidence to suggest that the suspects had distributed counterfeit notes to anyone. The investigation team noted that the timeframe surrounding the purchase of various equipment and printing materials by the accused matches these findings, confirming that the racket was intercepted before any fake notes were put into circulation.

The ongoing probe further revealed that the accused had attempted to print counterfeit currency on earlier occasions but had failed to perfect the printing process. Investigators believe that in this present case in Uppinangady, the group had rectified the shortcomings of their previous failed attempts and was actively preparing to execute the operation successfully when police intervened.

Among the seven arrested individuals, police identified an accused named Ibrahim as one of the key masterminds behind the criminal conspiracy. Ibrahim has a prior history with law enforcement, having been booked in two counterfeit currency-related cases in the past. Investigators also suspect that some of the other arrested suspects may have been involved in circulating counterfeit currency during previous instances. Their criminal backgrounds are currently being verified by the police as part of the ongoing investigation.

The investigation team acknowledged the crucial assistance provided by the Kodagu district police, who shared key intelligence that aided the progress of the case and led to the arrests in Uppinangady. Meanwhile, police confirmed that a few other accused individuals linked to the counterfeit operation are still absconding.
