80 Lakh Karnataka Voters Face Exclusion From Draft Electoral Roll

Around 80 lakh voters across Karnataka, including in Tumakuru’s Tiptur constituency, face exclusion from the upcoming draft electoral roll as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The Election Commission has directed that voters categorized under Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate, and Other (ASDDo) lists must be removed from the draft roll.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been actively verifying voter details across the state during the SIR exercise. According to official figures available till Sunday evening, 68.28 lakh voters had already been categorized under the ASDDo lists. Officials estimate that another 10 to 12 lakh voters could be added before the process concludes, bringing total exclusions close to 80 lakh.

Data recorded through Sunday evening indicates that 41.04 lakh voters were marked as permanently shifted from their registered addresses, forming the largest group within the flagged entries. Another 13.50 lakh voters were categorized as deceased, while 8.92 lakh voters were listed as untraceable by field officers.

The revision process also uncovered 4.59 lakh duplicate voter registrations. In addition, 21,253 voters fell under other categories or refused to sign enumeration forms during field visits.

However, the revision drive has led to complaints from eligible voters who claim they were incorrectly categorized. Multiple instances of living voters being listed as deceased have been reported across regions. In Tumakuru’s Tiptur constituency, voter enumeration forms were allegedly marked 'Dead' despite the citizens being alive.

With the Election Commission ordering the mandatory removal of ASDDo-classified individuals from the draft roll, affected voters are expressing concern over improper exclusions.
