Auto driver dies by suicide on Bellahalli-Kannur Road over Rs 1.75 lakh loan harassment

A 52-year-old auto-rickshaw driver died by suicide on Bellahalli-Kannur Road in Bengaluru on Friday afternoon after sending video messages to his son detailing alleged harassment and threats from a money lender over a loan repayment.

The victim, identified as G Yusuf Jamal Uddin, was found unconscious inside his auto-rickshaw by his son. Uddin was declared dead at approximately 4:30 PM at Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital in KG Halli.

According to the police complaint filed by the victim's son, Uddin sent multiple videos before his death. In one of the videos, Uddin alleged that a person named Umesh had been continuously harassing him over the repayment of a loan. He claimed that the harassment had escalated to threats against his family and stated that he could no longer bear the pressure.

In another video, Uddin mentioned that he was located on the Bellahalli-Kannur Road. Upon viewing the video, his son immediately rushed to the location and found his father unconscious inside the vehicle.

Uddin was initially taken to a nearby private hospital located near the Bellahalli Brick Factory bus stop. Doctors at the facility advised shifting him to another hospital. He was subsequently transported to Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

After arriving at the hospital, the son watched the remaining videos sent by his father. In one video, Uddin stated that he had borrowed Rs 1.75 lakh and had requested additional time to repay the sum, but the lender had refused.

The complainant stated that his father had previously informed the family about the ongoing harassment. According to the son, Umesh would repeatedly demand repayment and tell Uddin to "go and die" if he could not return the money, causing him severe mental distress.

Following the incident, the Bengaluru police registered a case of abetment to suicide under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Umesh. Investigators are currently working to locate the accused and are verifying the video evidence.
