BECC to host special dog adoption drive at Nexus Shantiniketan Mall on July 11

The Bengaluru East City Corporation (BECC) has announced a special pet adoption drive scheduled for July 11 at the Nexus Shantiniketan Mall to find homes for rescued, injured, and disabled street dogs. The initiative aims to address the rising number of dog bite cases and human-stray conflict in the area by promoting adoption as a sustainable solution to street animal suffering.

The upcoming drive will focus specifically on finding loving, permanent homes for vulnerable animals that are unable to return to the streets. This includes dogs that have survived physical abuse, road accidents, or those left with permanent physical disabilities.

According to BECC officials, the drive will prioritize motherless puppies, cruelty victims, and disabled dogs. In a unique move, street dogs with a history of biting will also be given preference during the event.

An official from the BECC explained that adopting these animals is a key step in rehabilitation. "Some street dogs with a bite history will also be given preference, as when adopted, they undergo behavioural change," the official said.

The official further noted that the decision to conduct the drive was directly influenced by local challenges. "We decided to conduct this drive considering the large number of dog bite cases in our area. Moreover, we also see street animals suffering a great deal. Adoption of stray animals is the only way forward to resolve these issues," the official added.

Through this initiative, the corporation hopes to connect compassionate local adopters with resilient animals, providing them with the care, safety, and companionship they deserve.

In addition to seeking adopters, the BECC has invited local animal rescuers to participate in the event. Rescuers can register the dogs currently under their care for the adoption drive.

Under the event guidelines, rescuers who complete the registration process can bring up to three dogs or puppies to the mall. To participate, they must first receive a confirmation email from the GBA animal husbandry department regarding their registration.
