Bengaluru East Commissioner Sets 15-Day Deadline for Gunjur Stormwater Drain Works

During a recent inspection in Gunjur and Panathur in Bengaluru East, Bengaluru East City Corporation Commissioner DS Ramesh set a strict 15-day deadline for the completion of the pending stormwater drain (rajakaluve) development works on Gunjur Club Road. The inspection was conducted alongside the executive engineer and local municipal officials to assess the progress of local drainage systems, road projects, and encroachment clearance activities aimed at mitigating seasonal flooding.

During his visit to the rajakaluve development site on Gunjur Club Road, Commissioner Ramesh noted that approximately 60 percent of the project has already been completed. He observed that the only portion of the drain still left to build is the connecting stretch from Vajpayee Stadium to the Gunjur Palya canal. To expedite the remaining 40 percent of the project, Ramesh instructed officials to finish all pending works within the next 15 days.

Following the inspection of the Gunjur Club Road drain, the commissioner directed the executive engineer to immediately commence road asphalting works as soon as the rajakaluve project is finished.

In neighboring Panathur, Commissioner Ramesh inspected another critical rajakaluve and ordered the immediate removal of all illegal encroachments within the stormwater drain area. He stated that encroachments on rajakaluves would not be tolerated, adding that clearance drives would be executed without delay to ensure the free flow of rainwater and effective flood mitigation in the area.

Additionally, the commissioner inspected a proposed road development project connecting State Highway-35 to the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR). This project, which covers approximately one kilometer, involves the formation of a new 150-foot (45-metre) wide road. Because the Relinquishment Deed and Transferable Development Rights processes have already been completed, the comprehensive road development work will be taken up using Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding. Officials target the completion of this road project within the next three months.
