Bengaluru Police Arrest Three in Actress Rukmini Vasanth Deepfake Case
The Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police have arrested three individuals in Bengaluru in connection with the creation and online circulation of AI-generated deepfake content targeting Kannada actress Rukmini Vasanth. The arrests were made following an investigation into fabricated photos and videos of the actress that recently surfaced on social media.
The controversy began when manipulated images and videos falsely depicting Vasanth started appearing across various online platforms. According to police investigators, the accused individuals allegedly used artificial intelligence tools to superimpose the actress's face onto another woman's body. Once the deepfake media was created, it was distributed through multiple social media accounts.
Vasanth had previously filed a formal complaint and a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the incident, labeling the fabricated videos as "character assassination." She strongly condemned the creation and sharing of the content, calling it a serious violation of her privacy and a direct attempt to damage her reputation.
Following the actress's complaint, the cybercrime wing initiated an extensive investigation. Detectives tracked several online accounts suspected of creating, sharing, and amplifying the deepfake material. Authorities were able to identify the three suspects through digital evidence collected during the technical probe, which ultimately led to their arrests.
The police investigation remains ongoing as cybercrime officials examine whether additional individuals were involved in producing or distributing the manipulated media.
The case has also reignited broader concerns regarding the rapid advancement of deepfake technology and its potential misuse against public figures.
