Bengaluru Police Book Former KPSC Chief's Daughter Over Fake Income Certificate

The Bengaluru police on Friday registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Vidhana Soudha police station against the daughter of a former chairman of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) for allegedly securing a government job using a fake income certificate.
The accused, Suma S Sahukar, is the daughter of former KPSC chairman Shivashankarappa S Sahukar. She allegedly applied for the post of Junior Engineer (Civil) in the Department of Industries and Commerce during a KPSC recruitment drive in March 2024. To claim reservation benefits under the 3B category, she submitted an income and asset certificate declaring her family’s annual income as Rs 40,000.
The discrepancy was uncovered during a scrutiny of her documents by the Commission. The KPSC found that her father had been serving as a member of the Commission since September 3, 2019, earning a basic monthly salary of about Rs 2.05 lakh. He was subsequently appointed as the KPSC chairman on April 5, 2021, drawing a basic monthly salary of around Rs 2.25 lakh, in addition to other admissible allowances.
According to the complaint filed by the KPSC Assistant Secretary, Udyoga Soudha, the family's actual annual income was substantially higher than the declared Rs 40,000. The Commission concluded that this income far exceeded the prescribed ceiling for availing reservation benefits under the 3B category.
The complaint stated that the declared income on the certificate did not correspond with the service records and salary particulars of her father. The KPSC noted that the declared income was prima facie inconsistent with the eligibility criteria for the claimed reservation.
Based on the complaint, the Vidhana Soudha police registered a case of forgery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A police officer stated that the investigation is in its preliminary stages. Investigators are currently verifying the authenticity of the documents submitted during the recruitment process and examining how the certificate was obtained.
