Bengaluru police register case over fake AI video of Chief Minister DK Shivakumar

The Sadashivnagar police in Bengaluru have registered a case against unidentified individuals for allegedly uploading a defamatory, artificial intelligence-generated video targeting Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on social media.

The legal action was initiated following a formal complaint lodged by a city-based advocate. Based on this complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under multiple sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act at the Sadashivnagar police station.

According to the complaint, the video was posted on the official Facebook page of the Janata Dal (Secular) political party. The post was shared under the tagline 'Kumaraswamy For CM' and featured a fake video created using artificial intelligence tools.

The clip allegedly depicted Chief Minister DK Shivakumar walking around the city under the cover of night. In the footage, he was shown with a cloth wrapped around his face while pasting posters onto a wall.

A senior police officer stated that the video was removed from the social media platform shortly after the police registered the FIR.

An investigating officer confirmed that the police have issued an official notice to the persons responsible for managing the official Facebook account of the JD(S). The administrators have been asked to cooperate with the probe and provide complete details about the post, the video, and the identities of the individuals who uploaded it.
