BIAL to double retail and food outlets at Bengaluru airport with 200 new locations

Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) has announced plans to double the number of food, beverage, and retail outlets at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru over the next five years. The expansion will add more than 200 new locations across Terminal 1, Terminal 2, The Quad area, and the upcoming metro station area, bringing the total number of shopping and dining options to over 400.
Pravat Paikray, Vice President of Commercial at BIAL, stated that the expansion is aligned with several ongoing developments at the airport, which is South India’s busiest and the third largest in the country. At present, the airport offers food, beverage, and retail experiences across its two terminals and kerbside.
According to Paikray, planning is currently underway for Phase 2 of Terminal 2. In addition, BIAL is re-imagining The Quad area and designing new commercial experiences to coincide with the arrival of the upcoming metro rail and its station.
Currently, there are approximately 200 outlets operating across both terminals. The upcoming five-year expansion will introduce a mix of local brands and iconic international names, following the strategy used during the first phase of Terminal 2.
Several international brands have already made their Indian debut at the Bengaluru airport. These include Wolfgang Puck Kitchen and Bar, Giraffe World Kitchen, Jims Martin Kitchen, Jamie Oliver’s Pizzeria, PF Chang, Jones the Grocer, Carluccio’s, and La Madeleine Express.
Paikray noted that while some of these brands may have since opened locations elsewhere, they initially entered the Indian market through KIA. The airport also hosts a Tim Horton’s innovation cafe and is preparing to open a Starbucks Reserve.
Alongside global brands, BIAL aims to promote local businesses. Paikray stated that the airport positions local brands next to major international ones, citing the example of Indian brand Forest Essentials operating next to Chanel, and South Indian dining options situated adjacent to pan-Asian restaurants like PF Chang.
