Dr Kiran Honnannavar Stabbed to Death in Dharwad, Wife Priya Detained
A 45-year-old anaesthesiologist was stabbed to death and his eight-year-old son was severely injured at their residence in Ranka Stello Apartments at Barakotri, on Karnatak University Road in Dharwad. The incident, which police suspect occurred on Tuesday evening, led to the detention of the victim's wife, Priya, who is an MBBS doctor.
The deceased has been identified as Dr. Kiran Honnannavar, who worked as an anaesthesiologist at a private hospital. Police personnel discovered Dr. Honnannavar lying in a pool of blood on his bedroom mattress. He had sustained fatal stab wounds to his neck, and police confirmed he died after being attacked with a knife.
In the same apartment, the victim's eight-year-old son was found with severe stab injuries. According to the police, there was an attempt to kill the child. Upon receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Sub-Urban Police Station rushed to the spot, rescued the injured child, and admitted him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment.
While the attack took place, Dr. Honnannavar's wife, Priya, was reportedly found in another room of the apartment, where she had been watching her mobile phone for hours.
Dharwad Police Commissioner N Shashikumar stated that the murder is suspected to have stemmed from a domestic dispute. This suspicion is based on a complaint filed by the family members of Dr. Honnannavar.
The Police Commissioner also noted that Priya had reportedly been answering phone calls made to her husband's phone since Tuesday evening. This activity has raised suspicions among investigators that the murder may have taken place on Tuesday itself.
Priya has been taken into custody by the police and is currently being questioned. Police Commissioner Shashikumar stated that she is in deep shock and is not speaking to anyone. The police have indicated that the exact motive behind the murder will only be confirmed after the investigation is completed.
