Hennur-Bagalur Road Upgrade Faces Delays With Only 60 Percent of Work Complete

BENGALURU — With only a few weeks remaining before the July-end deadline, the 5.5-kilometre Hennur-Bagalur Road concretisation project is facing major delays, with officials admitting that only around 60 percent of the work has been completed. The slow progress on this critical stretch in north Bengaluru has left local residents and commuters raising serious questions about whether the target can be achieved.
The upgrade project covers the 5.5-kilometre corridor between Hennur Cross and Bagalur Cross. The work was launched last September under the Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd (B-Smile) initiative. The project was originally designed to improve road quality and ease the heavy traffic congestion along one of north Bengaluru’s busiest stretches.
However, with the July-end deadline rapidly approaching, progress has slowed significantly. While civic officials have stated that side drain works are currently under way and remain a critical component of the overall project, local residents report a different reality on the ground.
According to community members and road users, visible concretisation activity has virtually stopped across the project site. Instead, only drain-related works are continuing in several sections of the road. This mismatch between the planned schedule and actual progress has led to prolonged traffic disruptions and widespread commuter inconvenience.
In addition to the delayed completion of this critical road infrastructure, many road users have raised urgent safety concerns regarding the incomplete construction zones. The ongoing delays have turned the busy corridor into a source of daily frustration for commuters who rely on the route.
With the July-end deadline looming, it remains unclear how the remaining 40 percent of the infrastructure work will be completed in the coming weeks. Bengaluru civic authorities and road contractors are facing mounting pressure from local residents to address the safety hazards and expedite the unfinished work.
