Hotel worker Rajesh, 22, dies in goods lift accident in Jayanagar

A 22-year-old hotel worker died after becoming trapped in a moving goods lift at the Dakshina Upahar Hotel in the Jayanagar area of Bengaluru. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on July 16, 2026, while the employee was carrying out his daily duties. The Jayanagar police have launched a full investigation into the accident to determine the exact circumstances and see if negligence was involved.
The deceased worker has been identified as Rajesh, aged 22, who was a native of Dharwad. Rajesh was employed at the Dakshina Upahar Hotel, a local establishment located within the limits of the Jayanagar police station.
According to the preliminary findings released by the local authorities, the tragic accident took place when Rajesh was using the hotel’s goods lift to transport grocery supplies. Investigators state that as the lift began to move, Rajesh's head and neck were allegedly protruding outside of the lift carriage. Consequently, they struck the lift's super-structure, resulting in severe physical injuries that ultimately led to his death.
Following the incident, officials from the Jayanagar police station arrived at the hotel to inspect the scene. The police have begun a thorough investigation into the matter. As part of their initial inquiry, officers are actively reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage from the hotel premises to reconstruct the exact sequence of events that led to the worker's death.
The primary focus of the police investigation is to ascertain how the accident occurred and to determine whether any negligence on the part of the hotel administration or staff contributed to the tragedy. The investigation remains ongoing as police compile evidence and examine the safety conditions of the goods lift at the establishment.
