KSCA installs Rs 5 crore LED floodlights at M Chinnaswamy Stadium

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has upgraded the floodlighting system at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, transitioning from conventional metal-halide lights to advanced LED Sports Floodlighting Technology. The new system, which underwent extensive testing on Friday, became fully operational on Sunday to coincide with the final leg of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 tournament.
The high-tech infrastructure project was executed at a cost of close to Rs 5 crore. This upgrade replaces the stadium's previous metal-halide floodlights, which had been in active operation for over a decade, having first been installed in 2010.
According to KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad, the new lighting system has been specifically designed to meet and exceed the latest international standards for professional cricket. The upgrade aims to modernize the stadium's infrastructure to keep up with global sports facility standards.
The new setup provides more than 3,500 lux over the pitch and over 2,500 lux across the outfield. Prasad explained that this ensures exceptional light uniformity and visibility for players on the field, match officials, spectators in the stands, and television audiences worldwide.
Beyond the improved illumination, the new LED sports floodlighting technology is also highly sustainable. Prasad highlighted that the system is approximately 40 percent more energy-efficient than the older conventional lighting system, offering substantial energy savings for the association.
Furthermore, the LED floodlighting project is designed to comply with modern cricket broadcasting demands. The advanced technology supports high-end broadcast requirements, including High Definition (HD), Ultra HD (4K), and super slow-motion cameras, ensuring seamless television coverage for future international and domestic matches hosted at the venue.
The transition to the new system was completed just in time for the final leg of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 tournament, which got underway at the venue on Sunday.
