Man dies in car explosion after abducting woman from Jayanagar

A 30-year-old man died in a car explosion on a national highway near Kallambella in Tumakuru district on Saturday, hours after he allegedly abducted a woman from Siddapura near Jayanagar in Bengaluru. The deceased, identified as Nagendra, allegedly triggered an explosive device inside the vehicle after attacking the woman, who managed to escape.

According to the police, Nagendra had booked the car from Siddapura near Jayanagar and forced the victim, identified as Ramya, into the vehicle.

While travelling, Nagendra allegedly attacked Ramya with a knife, striking her on the head inside the car. Despite her injuries, Ramya managed to escape from the vehicle.

The driver of the car also jumped out of the vehicle to rescue Ramya just before the explosion took place.

Tumakuru district Superintendent of Police, Ashok K V, said that the police received information that a vehicle parked on the side of the highway had caught fire. A police team immediately reached the spot near Kallambella in Sira Taluk.

Upon arrival, the police found the driver and Ramya outside the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames. After an initial enquiry, the police discovered that there had been an explosion and that a body was inside the vehicle.

"The driver and the woman informed us that the person inside had used an explosive, which resulted in the blast," Ashok K V told the media.

The Superintendent of Police added that preliminary information showed Nagendra had allegedly abducted Ramya by force from within the limits of the Siddapura Police Station in the Jayanagar area of Bengaluru.

The police suspect that Nagendra could have used a bomb or a Molotov cocktail to set the car on fire. Nagendra was charred to death inside the vehicle.

An investigation has been launched to ascertain exactly how the explosion took place and what caused it.
