Metal chain stuck in door causes 18-minute disruption on Bengaluru Purple Line

A commuter's metal chain became lodged in a metro train door at the Cubbon Park Metro Station on Thursday evening, triggering an 18-minute service disruption on Bengaluru's Purple Line. The incident occurred during the evening commute, halting train operations between 7:36 pm and 7:54 pm.
According to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the disruption began when the metal chain belonging to a passenger became trapped in the train door guideway. The physical obstruction prevented the automatic doors from closing. Because the doors could not secure, operations staff were forced to halt the train at the station platform until the item could be successfully removed.
Following the incident, the BMRCL's operations and maintenance teams launched a preliminary investigation to determine the exact cause of the stoppage. Technical teams conducted a detailed examination of the affected train and its automated door systems to rule out any underlying mechanical issues.
The investigation confirmed that the train itself did not experience any technical malfunction or system failure. The delay was solely attributed to the physical obstruction caused by the commuter's trapped chain.
BMRCL officials stated that all prescribed safety protocols were strictly followed and verified before the train was cleared to resume its regular service on the Purple Line. The corporation reiterated its ongoing commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient metro operations for all passengers.
