NCB Detains Five Foreign Nationals in KR Puram and Kammanahalli for Deportation
The Narcotics Control Bureau has arrested five foreign nationals residing illegally in Bengaluru's KR Puram and Kammanahalli localities and handed them over to local police for deportation proceedings. The operation was conducted as part of a special enforcement drive aimed at identifying foreign nationals suspected of involvement in illicit drug trafficking and unauthorised stays across the city.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding settlements of foreign nationals linked to narcotics distribution networks, NCB officials had placed the suspects under surveillance. The five individuals, who hail from different countries, were subsequently intercepted during the targeted operation in the two neighbourhoods.
During the verification process, investigators discovered that the detained individuals were not engaged in any legitimate employment, commercial business, or educational courses in the city. Based on these findings and operational intelligence, the agency noted that the individuals were suspected of being involved in local drug-related operations.
According to the NCB, this drive follows earlier enforcement actions in which eight foreigners—comprising seven African nationals and one Yemeni national—were deported in 2026 for identical violations and suspected links to narcotics trafficking networks.
Following the detentions, the enforcement agency issued a stern warning to property owners across Bengaluru regarding legal compliance when renting premises to foreign citizens. The agency emphasised that property owners must strictly adhere to statutory registration procedures before leasing accommodations.
Under Section 7 of the Foreigners Act, landlords accommodating foreign nationals are legally required to submit tenant details through Form-C to the local police or the Foreigners Regional Registration Office within 24 hours of providing housing. The NCB cautioned that failing to comply with this requirement constitutes an offence under Section 14 of the Act, carrying penalties of up to five years of imprisonment.
