Nelamangala supervisor Bhuvana dies in Tumakuru crash triggering protests

A 26-year-old electoral roll revision supervisor from Varadanayakanahalli village in Nelamangala taluk, Bengaluru Rural, was killed on Saturday morning after a truck collided with her scooter on Kunigal Road near Guluru in Tumakuru. The tragic death of Bhuvana, who was working on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, sparked overnight protests by revenue department officials outside the Tumakuru deputy commissioner’s office.
Bhuvana was employed as a supervisor for booth-level officers (BLO). According to officials, she suffered fatal head injuries during the road accident on Saturday morning. She was subsequently rushed to Siddaganga Hospital, where she passed away.
The incident quickly escalated into a demonstration as revenue department officials gathered outside the deputy commissioner’s office to protest. The protesting officials alleged that staff members involved in the SIR duties were facing extreme work pressure, a lack of fixed working hours, and severe stress from senior officials, which they argued contributed to the tragic turn of events.
Bhuvana’s uncle, Ramesh, shared details about her schedule leading up to the accident. He stated that she had attended an SIR-related review meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday and only returned home by 10 p.m. The following morning, she left her residence at around 6:30 a.m. to resume her field duties.
Ramesh expressed grief and anger over the working conditions Bhuvana faced. He stated that she was under immense pressure and had expressed a desire to quit her job. He also mentioned that her family had been planning to arrange her marriage.
According to Ramesh, the officials assigned to these duties were made to work without any consideration for their personal lives, and too many responsibilities were placed on single individuals. The protesting revenue officials echoed these concerns, demanding immediate action to address the extreme stress and lack of structured hours for staff.
