Police Constable Dies by Suicide in Patrol Van Near Jagat Circle in Kalaburagi

A 30-year-old police constable attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR) allegedly died by suicide inside a police patrolling van near Jagat Circle in Kalaburagi on Tuesday night. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 PM while the constable was deployed on security duty during an official visit by Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to the district.

The deceased constable has been identified as Shivakumar, who was a native of Naribola village located in the Jewargi taluk. According to police sources, the constable had celebrated his birthday just one day prior to the tragic incident. He had recently been transferred to Kalaburagi from the Bengaluru Rural district about three months ago. Shivakumar is survived by his wife and two children.

Local authorities reported that Shivakumar had successfully completed his assigned security duties for the Chief Minister's visit before the incident took place. At the time of his death, he was reportedly alone inside the police patrolling vehicle.

Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Sharanappa SD provided details on the initial findings of the case. He noted that a preliminary inquiry indicated the constable had been dealing with personal stress over the last few days.

"Shivakumar had completed his assigned security duty and was alone inside the police vehicle when the incident occurred. Preliminary inquiry suggests he had been experiencing personal stress in recent days," Police Commissioner Sharanappa SD said. "We are investigating the circumstances that led to his death, and the exact cause will be established as the investigation progresses."

Following the discovery, the police secured the scene near Jagat Circle. Forensic experts and a specialized ballistics team arrived at the spot to conduct a detailed scientific examination of the patrolling van and the surrounding area.

The Kalaburagi police stated that they will record official statements from Shivakumar's family members. These statements will be used as part of the broader investigation to determine the precise circumstances and factors that led to his death.
