Police shoot murder accused in leg after attack on officers near NICE Road

A murder accused was shot in the leg by the police on Wednesday after he allegedly attacked officers with stones during a crime scene investigation on Hemmigepura road near NICE road, under the Thalaghattapura police limits in Bengaluru.

The accused, identified as a rowdy-sheeter, is one of the suspects in the recent murder of a man named Raju. According to South Division Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) K Vamshikrishna, the murder occurred on June 27 when four men allegedly attacked Raju, resulting in his death in the JP Nagar area.

Following Raju's death, the Bengaluru police constituted eight special teams to track down the perpetrators. The police managed to arrest all four accused individuals within two days of the crime.

As part of the investigative procedure, police personnel escorted the accused to the crime scene near NICE Road on Wednesday to conduct a spot mahazar, which involves reconstructing the crime scene.

Once the spot mahazar procedure was completed, one of the accused men allegedly became highly aggressive. He began pelting the accompanying police personnel with stones. During the sudden confrontation, a female police officer was also attacked and injured.

To bring the situation under control and in self-defence, Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Samanvaya initially fired a warning shot into the air. Despite the warning shot, the accused allegedly refused to back down and continued to attack the police officers on the spot.

Fearing further assault on the police team, officers shot the accused in the leg to neutralise the threat and prevent any additional injuries to the personnel. The injured accused and the injured female officer were subsequently attended to.

The investigation into the murder case and the subsequent attack on the police team is currently ongoing.
