Priyank Kharge Directs Karnataka Police to Modernise IT Systems to Fight Cybercrime

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, Home Minister Priyank Kharge reviewed the functioning of the State Police Computer Wing in Bengaluru, stressing the need to leverage information technology to make policing more transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly. The review comes amid a growing threat of cybercrimes in the state.

During the review meeting, Director-General of Police (DGP) M.A. Saleem and senior police officers briefed the Home Minister on the department’s current technological infrastructure. The officials also provided updates on the police force's digital platforms and various ongoing modernisation initiatives.

Following the briefings, Minister Kharge directed the officials to strengthen their technological capabilities and adopt advanced digital solutions. He noted that these improvements are essential for enhancing the delivery of public services, especially in light of the increasing incidence of cyber offences. Kharge also called for greater transparency and accountability in policing, which he stated should be achieved through improved digital governance.

A major focus of the meeting was the further development of 'Police IT v2', the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform used by the Karnataka Police. This platform is designed to integrate critical functions, including crime records management, traffic administration, and daily departmental operations.

The deliberations between the Home Minister and senior officials focused on modernising the department’s digital ecosystem, strengthening cybersecurity, and improving interoperability among various digital platforms. The officials discussed creating a unified digital framework to streamline all police operations.

Finally, the meeting reviewed several initiatives proposed under the Home Department’s 100-day action plan. The plan emphasizes the creation of a smarter, technology-driven, and intelligence-led policing system across the state.
