Six Injured After Two BMTC Electric Buses Collide Near K.R. Circle

Five passengers and a bus driver sustained minor injuries after two Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) electric buses were involved in a rear-end collision near K.R. Circle in Bengaluru on the morning of July 4. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m.

According to BMTC officials, the incident involved a BMTC bus operated by OHM Mobility and a Tata Smart Mobility electric bus. The OHM Mobility-operated bus, bearing vehicle number AQ 4163, was heading from Kempegowda Bus Station (KBS) to Attibele on Schedule No. 360B/15. As the bus was moving ahead from the K.R. Circle traffic signal, it was hit from behind by the Tata Smart Mobility electric bus, bearing registration number KA-03-AJ-6163, which operates out of Depot-3.

BMTC officials confirmed that all passengers traveling in the leading OHM Mobility-operated bus escaped the accident unhurt. However, five passengers traveling inside the trailing Tata Smart Mobility bus suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Tata Smart Mobility bus also sustained injuries during the collision.

Following the crash, the injured passengers and the driver were immediately shifted to St. Martha's Hospital for treatment. Officials later stated that the driver's condition is stable.

The accident caused a temporary disruption to the flow of vehicles in the busy K.R. Circle area. Both of the damaged electric buses were subsequently removed from the accident site, which allowed normal traffic movement to resume.

Senior BMTC officials, including the Divisional Controller concerned, along with representatives from Tata Smart Mobility, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the collision. The officials supervised the rescue operation and ensured that the injured persons were taken to the hospital without delay.

Later in the day, Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh, Transport Secretary Deepa Cholan, and BMTC Managing Director Raghunandan Murthy visited St. Martha's Hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured passengers and the driver.

BMTC stated that it is extending all necessary assistance to the injured persons and their families. While the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, an official investigation has been initiated by the authorities.
