Slipper Thrown at Congress MLA Pradeep Eshwar in Chikkaballapur

Tension prevailed in Chikkaballapur after a slipper was allegedly thrown at Congress MLA Pradeep Eshwar during the Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations. The incident, which followed political friction over the MLA's recent remarks against Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy, disrupted the public event and forced the legislator to make an early departure.

The disruption began when a section of the attendees opposed Eshwar over his comments targeting Kumaraswamy. As the opposition grew, the programme was disrupted, and the MLA was forced to leave the venue.

While departing in an open vehicle, Eshwar criticised Kumaraswamy and his supporters, alleging that they were targeting him politically. The MLA also challenged his opponents by patting his arm, a gesture that further provoked some of the protesters at the venue. Moments after this gesture, a slipper was allegedly hurled at his vehicle.

Police personnel deployed at the event immediately intervened and detained the person suspected of throwing the slipper, along with an accompanying individual. Both suspects were taken to the police station for questioning.

Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey, who was personally supervising the security arrangements at the Kempegowda Jayanti event, reviewed the situation immediately after the disruption. Following the incident, the police department has started reassessing the security cover provided to the Congress MLA.

In response to the incident, Congress leaders and supporters gathered to stage a protest outside the Chikkaballapur Deputy Commissioner’s residence. The protestors condemned the attack, demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible, and urged authorities to provide enhanced security for Eshwar. They also submitted a formal memorandum to SP Kushal Chouksey seeking strict legal action against the culprits.

According to the police, two individuals have been detained for questioning. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances, including the motive behind the act and whether any other individuals were involved in the incident.
