Yadgir Tractor Driver Killed in Bengaluru Quarry Boulder Collapse

A tractor driver from Yadgir was killed and several other workers were injured after collapsing boulders crushed them at a quarry in Bengaluru on Thursday morning. The deceased worker, identified as Ramu, had recently migrated to the city with his family in search of a livelihood.

The fatal incident occurred a few hours after Ramu left for his shift at around 6:00 AM. His family, who also relocated to Bengaluru to work at the quarry, received a phone call informing them of the tragic accident later that morning.

Vinod, an earthmover operator who was working just 10 meters away from the site of the collapse, witnessed the disaster unfold. He was loading stones when he heard a loud crashing sound as the massive rocks came down.

According to Vinod, there was no debris on his earthmover, but the workers who were standing near the boulders were crushed instantly. He noted that there was no possibility of rescuing those who became trapped beneath the heavy collapsed boulders.

While some workers were trapped, others managed to flee the collapsing rocks. Vinod reported seeing several workers running and jumping away from the falling boulders to escape. In their frantic efforts to save their lives, these workers sustained various injuries to their hands, legs, and heads.

The tragedy has left the migrant worker community at the quarry in deep grief and fear. Ramu's mother expressed the family's devastation, stating that they had come to Bengaluru to earn their daily bread but had instead lost their son. She added that she did not know what to tell Ramu's wife.

Another family member highlighted the financial struggles and safety fears of the workers, noting that they had migrated from another place hoping for a better life but only earn daily wages of around Rs 800. The family member questioned what they would do if such dangerous incidents continued to happen at their workplace.
